Dear DUJAT member,

DUJAT is supporting the Japanese Reader’s Theater, “Living with the Father” (it will be performed in Japanese language with English subtitle) which was written by renowned Japanese writer Hisashi Inoue (1934 – 2010).  Please see attached the English flyer.

LIVING WITH FATHER (CHICHITO KURASEBA) is a well-known play by Hisashi Inoue, which focuses on the sufferings of the survivors of Hiroshima atomic bomb on 6 August 1945.

The story takes place during 4 days in the summer of 1948, as the ghost of her father, who had been killed by atomic bomb, visits Mitsué, who survived instead. He had somehow learned that she has fallen in love, and tries to convince her to start her new life. But Mitsué obstinately refuses his warm and humorous encouragements:

“People were killed in my place. I do not have the right to find happiness” she says.

The original book in Japanese (published in 2001) has been translated in 5 languages and the play was performed in abroad (Moscow, Hong Kong, and Bologna).

Please also visit the website of the performance: http://chichitooranda.weebly.com/english.html

Please let me know if you can join this unique Japanese Reader’s Theater (Reading Drama) performance which is the first time in The Netherlands.

For your information, Radboud Molijn and Kazuko Suzuki will be the master of ceremony!
