Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

During the large-scale rebuilding of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam till 2013, the finest works from the 17th century in the Rijksmuseum will continue to be on view under the title ‘The Masterpieces’.
During the 17th-century, Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer became renowned for his outstanding compositional and lighting skills. Under the theme of “letters,” the exhibition in Bunkamura Museum in Tokyo features the work of Vermeer alongside that of other contemporaneous painters. “Woman in Blue Reading a Letter” (c.1663-1664) by Johannes Vermeer, RIJKSMUSEUM, AMSTERDAM.
There are only around 30 known surviving works by Vermeer, three of which — “Woman in Blue Reading a Letter ” “A Lady Writing a Letter” and “Lady Writing a Letter with her Maid” — are being shown for the first time in Japan at this exhibition. The exhibition will be from Dec. 23 till Mar. 14 at the Museum, Bunkamura in Shibuya, Tokyo.
