Japan is known to be a frontrunner in dealing with an aging population in the workforce. The Netherlands will be facing this as well and is preparing for a changed demographic workforce. In the webinar, we will be addressing this issue from various angles, being it the trends on the economic impact or the impact on productivity.

Bas ter Weel, Managing Director at SEO Amsterdam Economics will give a presentation on sustainable public policy. Without additional policies, future generations will not be able to benefit from the same public arrangements that people do today.

The sustainability gap arises because government spending is growing faster than revenues. This is mainly due to increasing expenditure on care and pensions due to the aging of the population. What policies are effective? SEO is affiliated with the University of Amsterdam and has extensive expertise in many markets.

Then, KPMG will address the collaboration between generations in the workplace. An important fact for organizations is that at this time 5 different generations work together. We often see that a lot of attention is paid to the younger employee. Think of attention to development through talent programs, attention to work-life balance, vitality (sports classes, healthy food, workshops), personal coaching. But that little is offered specifically for the elderly.

The overarching theme is “Inclusion & Diversity”, how do organizations provide space for the talents of each generation as effectively as possible. In favor of personal and organizational success.

Lastly, Hiroyasu Matsubara, Managing Director of Yakult will give a testimonial on the topic. Yakult is one of the strong companies in Japan dealing with the aging population. A striking example is the institute of the Yakult ladies, making sure elderly people have contact with a Yakult lady on a daily base.
